Dream Symbol Dictionary
Every entry is a starting point, not a verdict. What a symbol means is decided by your own associations to it, which is what DreamOS asks for first.
Keeping a journal first? How to keep a dream journal that reads you back.
A snake in a dream
There is a snake in the room, or in the grass, or in the bed, and maybe it bites you, or maybe it does nothing at all. You wake with your heart going and the first thing you want to know is what was that about? What inside me is so scared of snakes? Or, if I am not scared of snakes, why was I in the dream?
Baby in a Dream
A baby in a dream commonly stands for something new and vulnerable in your life: a new idea, a project, a relationship, or a part of yourself that's just emerging and needs care before it's fully formed.
Being Chased in a Dream
Being chased in a dream commonly reflects something in waking life you're avoiding rather than confronting. What's chasing you often matters less than the fact that you're running instead of turning around.
Blood in a Dream
Blood in dreams commonly represents life force, kinship and what something is costing you. It is usually less ominous than it feels on waking, though the alarm itself is worth keeping rather than talking yourself out of, since the intensity is part of what the dream is reporting.
Car Crash Dream
A car crash in a dream commonly reflects a fear of losing control over the direction your life is heading, especially when someone else is driving, or the brakes don't work.
Cheating Dream
Dreams about cheating, either committing it or discovering it, rarely predict or reveal anything literal. They far more often reflect a fear of betrayal, a feeling of disconnect, or a part of yourself you're keeping separate from the rest of your life.
Death in a dream
Someone dies. It might be you, watching from outside your own body. It might be your mother, or a friend who is perfectly well, or someone who has been gone for years and is then suddenly sitting in the kitchen as if nothing happened. You wake and you need a minute, and then you need to know whether it meant anything.
Dog in a Dream
Dogs in dreams commonly represent loyalty, instinct and the companionable part of you that stays close and protects. A threatening dog usually points somewhere different, toward instinct that has stopped feeling like an ally, and the two readings are far enough apart that only the feeling in the dream can tell you which one you are dealing with.
Dreaming About an Ex
Dreaming about an ex usually isn't about wanting them back. It's more often about whatever they represented to you: a version of yourself, a feeling of being known, a pattern you haven't fully closed the door on.
Drowning in a dream
You are in cold water and you are struggling to keep afloat. It is over your head, something is pulling you down, or you are watching a loved one go under and you cannot move your legs to save them. You wake gasping, and the first thing you check is that you can breathe again, or that your partner is there right next to you.
Falling in a Dream
Falling dreams commonly reflect a loss of control, or a sense that something you were relying on, a support, a status, a stability, is giving way beneath you. It's also one of the most physiologically explained dream experiences there is, often tied to the hypnic jerk right as you drop into sleep.
Fire in a Dream
Fire in a dream commonly represents transformation, passion, anger, or a destruction that clears space for something new. It often carries warmth and danger in the same breath, sometimes in the same dream.
Flying Dream
Flying dreams commonly reflect a sense of freedom, control, or rising above a situation that felt limiting in waking life. Struggling to stay airborne, or losing the ability mid-dream, tends to reflect the opposite: control slipping away just as you thought you had it.
House in a Dream
A house in a dream commonly stands for the self. Different rooms often correspond to different parts of your psyche, your memory, or your life. A house you don't recognise, or one with a hidden room, usually points to something about yourself you haven't consciously found yet.
Losing Your Hair in a Dream
Dreaming about losing your hair commonly reflects anxiety about ageing, attractiveness, or a loss of vitality and control, closely related to teeth-falling-out dreams but usually tied more specifically to identity and self-image over time.
Mirror in a Dream
Mirrors in dreams commonly represent self-image and the distance between how you appear and how you actually feel. In Jungian terms a mirror is about as direct an invitation as the psyche gives you to look at the part of yourself you normally edit out before anyone sees it.
Money in a Dream
Money in dreams commonly represents value, energy and self-worth rather than literal finances. The exception is worth naming plainly: if you are genuinely worried about money in waking life, the dream may simply be carrying that worry, and reaching for a symbolic reading first can be a way of avoiding the obvious one.
Naked in a Dream
Being naked in a dream commonly reflects vulnerability or exposure, a fear of being seen as you actually are rather than as you present yourself. How you felt about it in the dream matters more than the nakedness itself.
Pregnancy Dream
Pregnancy in a dream, whether it's you or someone else, commonly represents something new developing in your life that isn't ready to be seen yet: an idea, a plan, a change still taking shape below the surface.
School in a Dream
School and exam dreams tend to arrive when something in waking life is being evaluated. The striking part is that they keep arriving decades after school stopped mattering, which is usually the clue: the dream is borrowing an old setting to talk about a current judgement.
Spider in a Dream
Spiders in dreams commonly represent creativity, patience, and the feminine principle, though for most people the immediate association is fear or disgust, which is just as valid a starting point.
Teeth falling out in a dream
You are talking to someone, or looking in a mirror, and a tooth comes loose, and then another. They come out whole, or they crumble like chalk, and you are holding them in your hand with no idea what to do. Then you wake up and run your tongue along your teeth to check.
Tornado Dream
A tornado in a dream commonly reflects a chaotic force in your life that feels bigger than you and outside your control, often something building for a while before it actually hits.
Water in a Dream
Water is one of the most universal dream symbols there is, and in Jungian terms, one of the most direct images of the unconscious itself. Calm water tends to reflect emotional equilibrium. Turbulent or flooding water tends to reflect emotion, or unconscious material, that feels too much to contain.
Wedding Dream
A wedding in a dream commonly represents a commitment or a union, and not always a romantic one. It can point to bringing two parts of your life, or two parts of yourself, together.
